Are you looking for a big band with a difference? To play the tunes you love from the shows, games, and movies you grew up adoring? To be at the forefront of exciting new developments in the jazz world? If so, Geeky Beats Big Band is the group for you.
Based in London, we’re passionate and dedicated musicians with a love for all things geeky – from Disney animation to Dark Souls, from Cowboy Bebop to Coconut Mall, and more. If it has a fandom, we’re probably in it and love to play the music from it!
If you think we’d be a good fit for your event, please email us at geekybeatsbigband@gmail.com to get in touch.
With video game orchestras and choirs springing up in London to great success, people are proving their love for geeky music in general. It’s like a new songbook is being written, but instead of drawing inspiration from musicals for the big hits, it’s from video games, anime, streaming shows, and modern movies – the dominant forms of entertainment. Check out the video below to learn how gaming is impacting the jazz world already, and read on to learn more about our vision for the future of geeky music!
We currently have a list of around 50 arrangements in our repertoire. These include a range of video game, movie, TV, and anime scores. We’re keen to work with anyone interested and able to produce arrangements for performances.
Our current repertoire includes music from Super Mario, Portal, Zelda, Cuphead, Cowboy Bebop, Ponyo, My Neighbour Totoro, Spider-Man, Star Trek, and more!
Yes! We’ve been rehearsing since January 2025 and gigging since the summer of 2025. You can learn more about what we’re up to on Instagram, Facebook, or on our bookings page.
Yes, we currently ask members to pay £15 per month. This is to ensure we can afford the rehearsal venue.
We will provide PDF copies of all sheet music for you to download to a tablet. You are free to print copies, but we want to avoid using paper where possible due to environmental impact. You will need to bring your own stands and anything else your instrument requires.
Yes. We actively support the LGBTQ+ community and welcome applications from everyone, regardless of sex, gender, or orientation. Harassment or abuse will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
We do not hold auditions for instrumental positions. You can submit a video with your registration if you’d like, but it’s not essential.
While it’s not a essential, if you are able to play solos on your instrument (whether written or improvised) then that’d be great.
While we’d like to be open to everyone, we don’t have the time or the music available to take on beginners. If you’re able to play more advanced big band repertoire, or are grade 6 (ABRSM) for example, then we’d love to hear from you.
We currently have a full line-up of musicians. However, we’re keen to add deps for various sections, so please register your interest below!
